Our Vision
The Alberta Glycomics Centre aspires to understand the fascinating roles that carbohydrates play in biology. By assembling top carbohydrate scientists, acquiring state-of-the-art technology, and establishing productive academic and industrial collaborations, the Glycomics Centre strives to be internationally recognized as a leader in glycomic research, an institution that produces exceptionally trained carbohydrate scientists, and a prominent liaison between academia, industry, and government.
Our Mission
Carbohydrates are critical components in many biological processes. Cells use them to communicate with each other, bacteria and viruses use them to infect their hosts, and cancer cells use them to chart new territory in the body. As more knowledge is gained about the important roles that carbohydrates play in biology, glycomic science will have an increasingly profound impact on progress in basic and medicinal research. The Alberta Glycomics Centre is focusing its efforts on several areas of glycomic research, including vaccine development, drug discovery, and synthetic biological materials, that have key medicinal and commercial applications.
